Chicago Opera Theater

Michael makes his principal conducting debut at Chicago Opera Theater, leading the world-premiere performance of The Beekeeper, a new opera by composer Wang Lu and librettist Kelley Rourke. The opera’s commission and its performance are part of COT’s Vanguard Initiative.

Vanguard Emerging Opera Composer Wang Lu has been paired with librettist Kelley Rourke and dramaturg Kate Pitt; she has been mentored by Vanguard Artistic Director Lidiya Yankovskaya and Vanguard Composer Mentor Jake Heggie. Conductor Michael Pecak leads the world premiere performance.
